What is Happy Helmets?

Happy Helmets is a give back program we launched last month! We donate new helmets to local charities, schools and youth programs. Each month a new helmet sponsor & donor is selected. Our goal of this program is to give individuals access to brand new helmets to keep their brains happy & healthy!

Big Thanks To Petzl

Petzl engineers and produces top of the line climbing gear. They generously donated helmets of various sizes and awesome colors for both adults and children.

A Deeper Look into Petzl:

“For 50 years, Petzl has been built around four pillars, four fundamental values that motivate every decision we make: remaining a stable family business, encouraging innovation to imagine the best solutions, insisting on industrial excellence with the goal of zero defects, and remaining engaged with our communities by providing global best practices.”

Outside of being an extremely successful business Petzl has opened its arms to nonprofits through the Petzl foundation.

“The mission of the Petzl Foundation is to support or initiate projects which serve the public interest. These projects shall seek a harmonious balance between human activities in the mountains and the vertical world relative to their impact on our natural, cultural and economic environments. “

Our April Helmet Recipients

Elevated Mountain Guides is a Salt Lake City, UT based nonprofit that began in 2018. They are committed to empowering underserved communities - locally and abroad - looking to access the outdoors, expand their expertise, and engage with nature.

In 2019 their programs had expanded to work with even more underserved youth in their community, including the addition of Liberty Elementary, a title one school in SLC. At this school alone they had 114 applicants for just 20 spots in their program!

They also launched Embark Outdoors in 2019.  Embark is a program that introduces wilderness skills, rock climbing, and snow sports to young women in Salt Lake and Utah County’s ever-growing refugee community.

These programs are just the beginning and will serve as the models for future projects around the world and here in the United States. In addition to the socio-economic advancement of local communities, we hope that these projects will also inspire environmental stewardship and an appreciation for our natural world.

BIG Thanks to K2

K2 is the original American Ski and Snowboard Brand, founded in 1962 in Washington State. The brand continued to pioneer by expanding into snowboards in 1987 and was the first brand to engineer products specifically for women starting in 1999; our Women’s Alliance™. Today they are resetting the K2 brand for the future, one that builds on this legacy to reposition as the industry leader. K2 has made a generous donation of high-quality MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) helmets in a variety of colors and sizes geared towards adults and children.

Our February Helmet Recipients

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Utah is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Their vision is that all youth achieve their full potential.

“Every child has the innate ability to achieve great success. With our mission and vision, we are working together to build a brighter future for all the kids in our community.”

Last year, BBBS had 1,217 kids enrolled in their three programs: 668 in community-based mentoring, 339 in site-based mentoring, and 210 in mentor 2.0. Of these 1,217 children across the state of Utah, 76% live in poverty, 63% are kid of color, 46% live in a single-parent household, and 10% have an incarcerated parent. They range in age from elementary to high school --- 46% are in elementary, 16% are in middle school, and the other 38% are in high school. No matter the challenge or situation, all kids have the capacity to go on to lead healthy, successful lives. With another mentor on their side, Littles are more likely to latch onto this sentiment and go on to be something great!”

From the brains that design the boards, the hands that build them, the riders that test them and the filmmakers that document the riding. It takes a BIG BAND to play the song, and we’ve happy to have recorded that hit single.” - K2 Snowboarding

All thanks to Roxy:

ROXY generously donated 14 helmets with an assortment of both youth and adult sizing to kick off the Happy Helmets program. ROXY is a very unique brand within action sports because it is one of the only all women’s brands. They have been empowering women to forage new trails in male dominated sports since 1990, needless to say we are ecstatic to have their support.

Our First Recipients:

The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) -- was established to spearhead a community-wide effort to increase the number of children participating in winter sports in the greater Park City area. Today, YSA supports seven competitive winter sport teams, after-school programs including Get Out & Play (GO&P) for elementary school students and ACTiV8 for middle school and junior high school students. YSA also established an endowment to provide need-based scholarships for junior athletes. Through these programs, they engage more than 2,800 youth each year.

We received this message from YSA Executive Director, Emily Fisher:

"I love the first picture because this little girl was SO excited about this helmet. Her Mom said it was the first time she had ever had new gear and the first time she got to pick the color. It really is so so heartwarming to see the girls have properly fitting helmets and helmets they want to wear because they love the color and design."
