Happy Helmets | Giro x Coombs Outdoor
Hey Friends,
Winter in finally here and couldn’t be more excited to get back out on the snow!
We’re elated to announce that November’s Happy Helmets is brought to you by Giro! We can’t thank Giro enough for their support and generosity with this program. This month’s recipient is Coombs Outdoors.
Happy Helmets:
Giro:
Giro has been a keystone within the action sports helmet industry since 1985. They started out as a bike helmet brand and deiced to expand into snow in 1999 and have been a leader in the space with ever since.
Giro’s mission is extremely admirable and unique: “You Make Us Do It. KEEP STRIVING FOR FURTHER, FASTER AND BETTER. WE’LL KEEP MAKING THE GEAR THAT GETS YOU THERE.”
“You, doing things that most people wouldn’t even consider. Drawing a line that’s rarely inbounds. Descending at speeds that would give your underwriter pause. Pushing yourself in ways nature and gravity never intended. As long as you’re relentlessly pushing forward, we will too. When you stop, that’s when we’ll stop. We’re obsessing over your passion. Destroying more helmets in testing and development than some brands even create. We’re agonizing over vent sizes and inseam lengths. Pouring our years, our hearts, our sweat, into one insole, one goggle, one helmet at a time. Plainly said, being there when you need us most.”

Coombs Outdoor:
“Vision: We envision a community in which youth feel supported, connected, and inspired.
Mission: Coombs Outdoors empowers local youth to grow and thrive by reducing barriers to outdoor recreation through programs, mentorship, and community building.
People come from around the world to experience Jackson Hole’s iconic public lands and recreation opportunities. Visitors and residents alike go outdoors to challenge themselves, relieve stress, and find inspiration. But not all locals have that same access - many Teton County families experience barriers to our outdoor recreation culture.
We believe that all local youth deserve to experience the outdoors and feel like they belong in our community. Coombs Outdoors seeks to break down these cultural, financial, and knowledge barriers by providing year-round outdoor programming for youth from Kindergarten to high school.”
They break up their programming by age into 3 phases (see below)

Happy Helmets | Smith x Bicycle Collective
Hi Friends!
How do vampires address their letters?
Tomb it may concern:
Spooky season is upon us! Which means the foliage is in full swing, temps are cooling down and winter is right around the corner.
We’re elated to announce that our October’s Happy Helmets is made possible by Smith’s generous donation! We’ve also had the pleasure of teaming up with Bicycle Collective, who is a local UT nonprofit.
Happy Helmets:
Smith:
“In 1965 Dr. Bob Smith, orthodontist and original ski bum, developed the first sealed thermal lens and breathable vent foam. He hand builds goggles in his garage and sells them out of his van on weekend ski trips in Utah and Colorado.” In 1969 Smith was able to start manufacturing out of Colorado but just a few years later Smith moved production to Ketchum ID, where HQ is still located today. In 2009 they launched the world’s largest eco-friendly sunglass collection, the “protect what we love” ethos of using biobased or recycled materials in all product categories was a major milestone.
Smith has always been one of the leading players in optics and helmets, across a multitude of different action sports. Smith is one of the very few companies that has put Koroyd in their bike helmets as well as the option for Koroyd combined with MIPS (they have these options in snow helmets too). They even recently came out with their “express” helmet for bike commuters that is equipped with MIPS and a built-in light on the back to make you more visible to cars at night/ early morning. We’re over the moon to have the support of such a forward thinking company focused on comfort, innovation, functionality and safety.

Bicycle Collective:
“The Salt Lake City shop is the flagship location of the Bicycle Collective. Founded in 2002, the Collective was born when a small group of enthusiastic bicycle users put to the test ideas that appeared to be complementary realities: that bicycles are a sustainable form of urban transportation and people just need a little encouragement to choose to ride; and the fact that there are bicycles sitting unused in garages and backyards throughout the Wasatch front that could be refurbished and put to use by someone in need.
Starting from such a simple idea, the Collective has grown from a small working board of directors in a rented storage unit in Glendale, to a state-wide organization with four community bike shops in three cities and growing!
The SLCBC is the engine that empowers the organization. The SLCBC sells refurbished bicycles as well as used and new components and accessories, the revenue from which is reinvested into ever expanding programming that allows us to give hundreds of bikes to adults and kids in need each year, teach free repair classes, earn-a-bike and mountain bike camps for kids, job training and more! It’s a model we’re proud of and is built with long-term sustainability and mutual benefit in mind—the more people use our shops, the more programming we’re able to offer!”
Swing by the shop at 2312 S. West Temple sometime to learn more about what we have to offer or to see how you can get involved with the movement to put as many bikes on the streets of SLC as possible. Happy riding!” See how you can get involved: https://bicyclecollective.org/salt-lake-city

Hey Everyone!
This month’s Happy Helmets was made possible by Triple 8! You might recognize Triple 8 from none other than Tony Hawk. Triple 8 helmets are some of the most stylish as well as quality skate helmets on the market, they also make an assortment of both pads and mouthguards.
We’ve been fortunate enough to team up with Pushing Ahead for a second month in a row. Pushing Ahead is a fellow local UT nonprofit that is working to empower kids through skateboarding.
Happy Helmets:
We’re overjoyed to have the opportunity to team up with Triple 8 again for July’s Happy Helmets!
Triple 8:
“Triple 8 was born on the streets of New York City, so we know what it’s like to ride them. And we know what it takes to conquer them, too.
Back in 1996, we hit the pavement—literally—with our first helmet, and have been developing tough, stylish protective gear for the action sports industry ever since. Our team is continuously dreaming up new products, incorporating new technology, and maintaining our hard earned reputation for skate, bike, snow, water and derby gear of the highest quality and craftsmanship. After all, we’re not only making the products, we’re using them too.
You can be confident that no matter what spills you take, we’re here to help you get right back up. So go ahead, push harder, go faster, fly higher. And know that whatever you ride, Triple Eight has you protected from head to toe.”
