Happy Helmets | Anon X Chill Foundation
Thank YOU to everyone that helped to spread the word and/or donated to our Giving Tuesday efforts! We had an amazing outcome and couldn’t be more thrilled to give the gift of brain health to those in recovery - thanks to you.
We hope that everyone is enjoying the winter season thus far! Tis the season to get back on the mountain, and that might mean it’s time to start looking for a new helmet. If you ever have any questions about helmets please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via IG or email.

December’s Happy Helmets is made possible by none other than the icon, Anon!! Anon is Burton’s optic and helmet brand and has been leading the way in snow helmet technology since 2001. They have low profile, lightweight, stylish helmets all with the most innovative technology. These beautiful, top notch helmets will be donated to those in need at the Chill Foundation! Chill is an incredible, international nonprofit that was founded by Jake and Donna Carpenter (founders of Burton Snowboards) in 1995 with the goal of inspiring youth through boardsports.
About Anon:
Anon has been an icon for helmets in snowsports since the early 2000s. As mentioned before they are the industry’s leader in helmet technology. Their most recent innovation is WaveCel:
“WaveCel® behaves like a network of hundreds of interconnected shock absorbers connecting your head and the outer shell of the helmet. WaveCel helps distribute the impact energy through its network of cells, reduces impact forces like the crumple zone of a car, and then helps divert rotational forces by flexing and gliding to help redirect energy away from the head.” Each WaveCel helmet is designed to fit closer to the head, providing a snug, comfortable fit. Check out their WaveCel helmets, here!
Another recent innovation from Anon is their Endura: “Endura® shell construction features an injection-molded ABS exterior for long-lasting durability and ding-resistant strength”
Anon also has helmets lines with the following options:
MIPS Line - “Multidirectional Impact Protection System (MIPS) is a revolutionary technology that mimics the brain's own protection system with a low friction layer that lets the helmet slide relative to the head”
Standard EPS Line - “In-mold shell construction fuses a lightweight polycarbonate shell with an EPS liner for sleek comfort and a low profile fit”
Boa Fit System Options - “360° BOA® Fit System integrates a fit dial directly into the helmet and provides for micro adjustments in a complete halo around the wearer's head”
Plus multiple other options to ensure you get the helmet that best fits your needs!
Our December Helmet Recipients: The Chill Foundation
“Chill was founded in 1995 by Jake and Donna Carpenter, the founders of Burton Snowboards. Chill has served more than 25,000 young people since the program began, working with approximately 3,000 youth annually. We work with social service agencies, mental health agencies, foster care programs, juvenile justice programs, and schools in local communities to select youth participants. Everything is provided to the youth at no cost.
We focus on the resiliency of our participants to help them reach their full potential and see that there is a path out of their current circumstances. Their current situation doesn't have to define them or determine their path in life; Chill helps them to realize alternatives beyond the struggles they face.
Since inception in 1995, Chill is proud to offer programs in 24 cities, in 10 countries throughout the world. Participants range in age from 10-18 years old.
The Chill program embodies the latest Positive Youth Development (PYD) best practices to ensure participating youth build resiliency through targeted lesions and challenging physical activities.”

“The year is 1988. Skateboarding is still prohibited, and the Sweet mantra was just manifested on a school paper. The Sweet Protection story started in Trysil, a mountain village in Østerdalen, Norway, when a group of keen river kayakers were missing the proper protection to push even harder at their sport.” Their start is one of the most unique and interesting in the outdoor industry. “When we humbly began more than 25 years ago, we took 15 kids from the big city of Denver to the fresh air of Vail Mountain to snowboard for the first time. Those kids left that day forever inspired by the transformative power of the outdoors.
Over two decades later, we’ve grown SOS Outreach into a national nonprofit spanning from the Cascades to the Sierras to the Rockies to the Midwestern hills—serving more than 4,000 youth each year across 15 locations in 9 states, and offering year-round programming at several of our sites.
Our life-changing programs combine outdoor exploration, positive adult mentorship, leadership skills and community service to help youth discover joy, feel included, overcome challenges, improve their mental health, and become strong leaders.”
SOS has impacted an abundance of both youth and their adult mentors in the outdoor community! To see how you can get involved click HERE

“In 1965 Dr. Bob Smith, orthodontist and original ski bum, developed the first sealed thermal lens and breathable vent foam. He hand builds goggles in his garage and sells them out of his van on weekend ski trips in Utah and Colorado.” In 1969 Smith was able to start manufacturing out of Colorado but just a few years later Smith moved production to Ketchum ID, where HQ is still located today. In 2009 they launched the world’s largest eco-friendly sunglass collection, the “protect what we love” ethos of using biobased or recycled materials in all product categories was a major milestone.
Smith has always been one of the leading players in optics and helmets, across a multitude of different action sports. Smith is one of the very few companies that has put Koroyd in their bike helmets as well as the option for Koroyd combined with MIPS (they have these options in snow helmets too). They even recently came out with their “express” helmet for bike commuters that is equipped with MIPS and a built-in light on the back to make you more visible to cars at night/ early morning. We’re over the moon to have the support of such a forward thinking company focused on comfort, innovation, functionality and safety.

Our August Helmet Recipients
“The Salt Lake City shop is the flagship location of the Bicycle Collective. Founded in 2002, the Collective was born when a small group of enthusiastic bicycle users put to the test ideas that appeared to be complementary realities: that bicycles are a sustainable form of urban transportation and people just need a little encouragement to choose to ride; and the fact that there are bicycles sitting unused in garages and backyards throughout the Wasatch front that could be refurbished and put to use by someone in need.
Starting from such a simple idea, the Collective has grown from a small working board of directors in a rented storage unit in Glendale, to a state-wide organization with four community bike shops in three cities and growing!
The SLCBC is the engine that empowers the organization. The SLCBC sells refurbished bicycles as well as used and new components and accessories, the revenue from which is reinvested into ever expanding programming that allows us to give hundreds of bikes to adults and kids in need each year, teach free repair classes, earn-a-bike and mountain bike camps for kids, job training and more! It’s a model we’re proud of and is built with long-term sustainability and mutual benefit in mind—the more people use our shops, the more programming we’re able to offer!
Swing by the shop at 2312 S. West Temple sometime to learn more about what we have to offer or to see how you can get involved with the movement to put as many bikes on the streets of SLC as possible. Happy riding!” Check em’ out: https://bicyclecollective.org/salt-lake-city
